InvestEngine: the benefits of a long-term media strategy
Anyone who has ever invested – whether in their pension or a stocks and shares ISA – will know that growing the value of your investments takes time and benefits from a consistent, long-term approach. In many ways, the same can be said for any PR strategy – building reputation, standing and awareness doesn’t happen overnight, and a considered long-term strategy is critical.
At Seven, we work with a range of innovative businesses looking to make a real difference for their customers – and with InvestEngine, the online investment platform with a mission to help more people invest smarter, that’s no exception. Over the past few years, we’ve helped them go from a relatively new player with limited awareness among journalists, to a trusted voice on investing across national media.
InvestEngine’s mission
InvestEngine is focused on exchange-traded funds (ETFs) – an increasingly popular way to invest that’s low-cost, diversified, and accessible for all investors – no matter their experience. It offers investing through a range of accounts, including Individual Savings Accounts (ISAs) – which shield investment returns from tax – and Self-Invested Personal Pensions (SIPP), making them a strong choice for anyone looking to build their long-term wealth.
Our brief
We’ve partnered with InvestEngine for several years, including supporting them through three consecutive “ISA seasons” – the last few months leading up to the end of the tax year in April, when many people are most engaged with their finances.
Seven’s role is to raise InvestEngine’s profile with target audiences and position them as a credible, go-to platform for long-term investing. This meant maximising impactful coverage in tier 1 national titles and specialist personal finance outlets.
Our approach
Our strategy has focused on consistent, high-quality media engagement – delivering a steady drumbeat of coverage across each year, with peaks in activity between the critical months of January to April. Our approach includes:
Telling impactful stories through news angles based on bespoke consumer research, government FOI data, and insightful financial commentary covering everything from personal finances to global economic trends.
Staying in the conversation by keeping a close eye on major financial announcements (like those in the government’s Spring Statement) and quickly providing expert commentary on topics like taxation and ISA reform.
Building media relationships, investing the time in engaging with target personal finance journalists, ensuring InvestEngine remained top-of-mind for commentary or insights on investment-related matters.
Driving product awareness and highlighting InvestEngine’s key differentiators with competitors, such as their low fees, as well as offers such as bonuses for transferring.
Boosting credibility, working with outlets to feature InvestEngine in provider round-ups and reader recommendations, helping build third-party endorsements.
The results
This consistent media strategy has led to strong results, which have built on each successive year’s impact. In 2023, we secured nearly 140 pieces of coverage, and in 2024 we increased that number to 160 pieces.
In just the first half of 2025, we hit 125 pieces of coverage – bringing the three-year total to more than 420 pieces – generating an estimated 8.8 million views, with a potential reach of nearly 615 million people, and backlinks in 25% of the coverage – boosting SEO and direct traffic to InvestEngine’s site.
But crucially, we didn’t just grow the volume of coverage, but its quality too. In the first half of 2025, 75% of coverage appeared in tier 1 publications (nationals and key trade outlets), up from 60% in 2024 and just 30% in 2023. This growth showcases how we built trust and awareness of InvestEngine over time among top-tier media.
Coverage highlights from the first half of 2025 included:
FOI-based stories on ISA millionaires featured in City AM and MoneyWeek.
Consumer research into pension tax relief awareness picked up by This is Money, Daily Mail, Mirror, Pension Age, and MSN.
Commentary on Spring Statement ISA reforms featured in This is Money and City AM.
Promotion of InvestEngine’s transfer bonus scheme in The Times Money Mentor, MoneyWeek, The Sun, and more.
Coordination across teams to help secure InvestEngine Which? Recommended Provider status.
Among these results, one of the most successful aspects has been how we’ve helped InvestEngine reach a point where journalists regularly proactively come to us to seek InvestEngine’s input on a wide range of money matters – underlining the success in building the brand.
This consistent, sustained PR effort has led to impacts that extend beyond media coverage – building trust, growing InvestEngine’s customer base and helping them stand out in a crowded market where many older, more established legacy platforms have had years to build brand awareness.
Just like with investing, the success of these PR campaigns is a testament to the power of a long-term strategy, leveraging the right stories, the right channels, and the right relationships, to build reputation and standing over time.
