Project Description

Coconut

Coconut is a smart accounting tool for limited companies and self-employed people.

Seven was asked to support Coconut to launch its brand and app to market, targeting potential customers and investors, while highlighting the main challenges that freelancers face with regards to tax and accounting.

Our Approach

Seven supported Coconut in advance of its launch, helping to secure some early interest and build the waiting list.

• We worked with freelance journalists to let them experience the app directly and set up several pre-briefings with the founders and key media.

• The Coconut team had thousands of people on the list before they even launched to market.

• The Seven team also engaged wider stakeholders at launch, including industry bodies across fintech and small business to help spread the message.

• The announcement of launch was received incredibly positively resulting in strong coverage.

The Results

At launch, Seven secured extensive coverage for the Coconut app. CEO Sam O’Connor was interviewed on Ian King Live on Sky News. The launch featured across national press, including City AM, This is Money, Raconteur, iNews several finance trade titles.

Months later, Coconut reached its £500,000 funding target through Crowdcube, and subsequently unveiled its new limited company current accounts and invoicing tool. This announcement was featured in various finance trades, including Fintech Futures, Finextra and Crowdfund Insider. In addition, Coconut was included in the Financial Times.

Around the same time, Coconut won a £100k grant as part of Nesta Challenges’ Open Up Challenge, covered in The Times and Forbes.

To maintain momentum, Coconut undertook some research, that featured in Telegraph Money and several interviews were secured for Sam, from Forbes to 11.FS’ Fintech Insider Podcast.

This ongoing support has successfully placed Coconut firmly in the minds of journalists as a ‘one to watch’ and thought leaders in the SME and Fintech space.
